A new website designed for lovers of bottled water has come online from the
US West Coast. It describes itself as "the definitive voice for water
connoisseurs and their accompanying lifestyle."
www.finewaters.com is the brainchild of wine connoisseur and 'food
anthropologist' Dr Michel Mascha.
A former Assistant Professor of Visual Anthropology at the University of
Southern California, Mascha has been a dedicated gastronome for more
than 20
years.
The idea of finewaters.com was born after Mascha developed a heart condition
which prohibited him from drinking alcohol. White wine banned from the
menu, he
learned to accompany his gourmet meals with a bottle or two of
grand cru
water.
Noting the upsurge of interest in bottled water around the world, the opening
of water bars in some countries and the appearance of water sommeliers
in top
class restaurants, he felt there was an unsatisfied thirst for
knowledge among
water drinkers.
"It sounds a bit odd at first," says Mascha. "But there is a true richness to
fine water, because of its inherent subtlety. and as a $6 billion a
year
industry in the United States, it deserves and authoritative
source."
