CANAQUA – the “official” water of
Canada?
CANAQUA a small startup company, founded in late
2004, conquers the world by audaciously focusing on what is really important for
bottled water. The Water. What makes the source of CANAQUA water
special? The Source, which has been documented since 1957, is
located at 1200 feet ASL in the Coastal Mountains of British Columbia. The water comes out of the aquifer by a 260ft
"gravity feed" drop which creates it’s own flow at 4 million gallons per
day. The first time this untouched
source sees the light of day is when the valve is opened. The relatively constant flow also
suggests a constant hydraulic head within the subsurface. The rocks around the water have bestowed the water
with a unique mineral balance, no sodium and importantly - high liquid calcium.
Calcium has some profound effects on our bodies from ensuring that our bones are
strong to maintaining body weight, with nature's purest delivery system...Water
to water (our bodies) Linda Samis,
the "street savvy, never give up" Founder/CEO of CANAQUA attributes the
success of her startup to the source, the name and the look of the
bottle. "We have been like the
little fish in a big pond, but we are breaking through at an enormous clip. People around the world, recognize a
great product when they see it." “Many people do not realize” Linda explains, “that
the bottled water industry has strayed very far from its roots. At one time the
water inside the bottle was worthy of that bottle, if not why not just drink tap
water? The bottle has now become the vessel for tap water and we are stepping up
to the counter to buy it. CANAQUA is providing water worthy of that
bottle.” CANAQUA is currently fulfilling orders to
China, Korea, UK, Spain, France, Germany, South
Africa
and the success has also attracted attention from the Canadian Ministry of
Agriculture which sees Canada in CANAQUA and is actively helping promote the water overseas through it’s trade representatives. CANAQUA is also sponsoring the International FIA GT racing team Creation Autosportif, which has brought CANAQUA to the world. Linda’s 20 yr. old son thought up the name, the color of the label and her daughter is their photographer. "CANAQUA....Face your Thirst" with Faces
from around the world, is the theme of the advertising
campaign. With a strong social consciousness and a commitment
to bring change, CANAQUA is also working on a program which will provide free
water to schools in exchange for removing soft drinks. “Students shouldn’t be
buying their education through sodas” Linda states, “with childhood obesity and
diabetes rising to unprecedented levels and when I went to school there was no
such disease as A.D.D. I can't help but think this along with other factors is a
contributor, having a couple of sodas at lunch would strain anyone's
concentration for afternoon classes. This subsidizing our children's schooling
with soda revenue's was a terrible idea...this was my generation that did this
and CANAQUA will be part of the solution.” CANAQUA has also recently added to the very exclusive
selection of waters served at the world famous Colette Water Bar in
Paris, another indication of a rising star in the world of
bottled water. CANAQUA is constantly expanding it’s distribution and will be launching at Harvey Nichols with an exclusive contract in the UK and will introduce CANAQUA at the Silverstone race in London August 11-14, then instores the following weekend, in Kaufhof Galeria (Germany, Belgium) in October and in November with the largest Spanish owned retailer in Spain.
