Bottled Water of the World

FineWaters represents the Fine Water category, educating the consumers and the media and F&B professionals about water not just being water.

The Fine Water Society was founded in 2008 to create a global forum and to further enhance the visibility of Fine Water and convey the idea that water is not just water but a natural product with terroir and unique characteristics.

Puyehue Mineral Water is a thermal mineral water, from a spring located 70 kilometers from the city of Osorno, in the south of Chile, toward “Los Andes” mountain range, at the foot of the Puyehue volcano. The origin of the water is an aquifer below the Patagonian Andean at a depth of 565 ft (172 meters).

Historical eruptions originally attributed to Puyehue, including major eruptions in 1921-22 and 1960, are now known to be from the Cordón Caulle rift zone. The Cordón Caulle geothermal area, occupying a 6 x 13 km wide volcano-tectonic depression, is the largest active geothermal area of the southern Andes volcanic zone.

The philosophy of Puyehue is to allow consumers to appreciate and to enjoy a premium water brought directly from nature, to the table.

Puyehue Mineral Water History

At a southern point of the world, in the south of Chile, the mysteries of the earth surpass the human imagination. Nature secrets are hidden in remote zones of the planet. At the hillside of Puyehue Volcano, in the Chilean Patagonia, surrounded by virgin nature, comes to the surface in a natural way, our own unique spring since two hundred years.

The Pehuenches natives that inhabitated the zone, already considered this natural water fountain, that emanated from the depths of the earth, as regenerative and healing.

In the year 1939, this place jealously sheltered by nature is discovered and it is started to be consumed as natural water.

Two years later, in 1941, it is tested according to the sanitary requirements of the time and begins to get bottled in glass containers in the shape of a drop, under the brand Puyehue; to provide with natural mineral water, the South Railroad National Company and the local stores.

“ The care placed on the details that involve our product as part of an harmonic whole, natural and well balanced; lead to develop a bottle able to contain all the magic from the south of the world. Our bottle, shaped as a drop, is not by chance. It is the result of observation and the spell of the virgin forests, that combines themselves to produce an amazing dawn inside the forests of the south after the everyday southern rainfall.

A masterly vision of millions of diamonds, shining with the reflections of the first beam of sunshine. Water drops caught in the mighty ferns typical from the area. This image, full of divine inspiration, is captured in our drop shaped bottle, with fern texture finish in the glass, typical of it’s place of origin.”

Throughout 49 long years, Puyehue MIneral Water is bottled in its place of origin, in an handicraft way and is marketed in a small geographic zone, that covers basically the IX and X Regions of Chile.

During 2000, the brand is relaunched, inaugurating a new and modern bottling plant, seeking to lead to the whole world the benefits of this natures secret. This demanded a new study according to modern standard sanitary requirements: hydrogeological study, physical-chemical analysis of the water, environmental impact studies (for the construction of a new plant) and studies of production feasibility.

All this studies and analysis, gave as a result the confirmation of being in the presence of a product of unique characteristics. After being presented before the Health Ministry, it is declared its Origin Sources, “Health Source” by Supreme Decret Law N. 684 of September 20, 2000, signed by the President of the Republic of Chile.

Puyehue Mineral Water is drained and bottled in its origin sources, through a drilling of 172 meters depth, that connects directly with the Freatic Table of the Andean Patagonian Massif. It covers the Andean mountainous chain and parts of the Patagonia. The water table maintains itself unharmed thanks to the constant reposition of rain water, thawing of millenary glaciers and Andean tributaries; that get slowly filtrated towards the earth depths, going through an substratum of volcanic gravel, which is the best filter that nature can provide, to deliver a pollutant free water, light and balanced.

The condition of Thermal Mineral Water, is determined by the temperature at which the water is pumped, which is an average of 86/30 º F/C. This temperature is absorbed by the water, during its route between volcanic deep rocks. The condition of high temperature and depth, establishes the extraction of a 100% pollutant-free product which might not be assured in more shallow tables.

Because of typical conditions of the geographical location of our source, situated on the hillside of Puyehue Volcano, surrounded by virgin forests, 100 kilometers away from an urban center, and in an area that is confined at the end of the world, the Chilean Patagonia; Puyehue Mineral Water is owner of a huge secret: its “Natural Balance”... makes it 100% naturally Oligomineral; it has a great variety of minerals, in low and balanced concentrations, necessary for a good and rounded performance of our metabolism.
