Icelandic Glacial
The source of this water is the legendary Ölfus Spring, formed during a massive volcanic eruption over 4,500 years ago and shielded from the elements by an impenetrable barrier of lava rock since then. The water is piped directly into the bottling plant from the spring via a dedicated stainless steel pipeline.

The local government has applied a 128,000 acre exclusion zone above the spring, and no farming, animals or buildings are permitted in the surrounding area.

Icelandic Glacial continue to receive design awards for its innovative packaging, including “Best Overall Concept” award — among other top honors — at the 2005 Bottled Water World Design Awards in Dubai. They also captured the silver medal in the People’s Choice Award for Best Packaging Design at the 2006 Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition held in Berkeley Springs, W.V., where more than 100 sparkling, bottled and municipal waters competed in the largest and longest running water tasting in the world.

By going green in a big way, Icelandic Glacial Natural Spring Water has taken the traditional bottled water selling point of purity a few steps farther along the trail. The imported product has been certified carbon neutral, making it one of the few bottled water brands with an environmentally-friendly halo at a time when consumer activism has made this one of the chief issues for the category. But guess what? The product, with its sculptural, glacier-evoking bottles, is more than green-friendly, it’s also primed to become green-accumulating via a distribution partnership with beer giant Anheuser Busch. This is a brand aligned for big growth in the coming year
The state-of-the-art, high capacity bottling plant is situated in Thorlakshofn at the edge of the Ölfus Spring. The dedicated stainless steel pipeline penetrates deeply through solid rock and into the source.

All production lines are fully automated, and their uniquely designed bottles are blown on site to reduce handling and improve upon the overall efficiency of the operation.

The filling process takes place in a clean room environment equivalent to laboratory conditions. This ensures that the water has never been exposed to outside air until an appreciative consumer removes the cap.
The source and the company premises are regularly inspected by the Icelandic Public Health Authority, who carry out stringent tests to ensure the plant is operating in compliance with World Health Organization standards.

As part of their quality assurance program, Icelandic Glacial also carries out internal laboratory tests on a daily basis. NSF International carries out a full analysis of their water annually, and in 2005 they received an unprecedented 100 percent pass.
