Bottled Water of the World

Switzerland

Switzerland is known for its abundance of water resources. Its rivers, lakes and mountain streams feature on practically every tourist brochure and contribute to the country's image. Sales of mineral water are on the rise and 30 per cent of Swiss prefer to drink bottled water and consumption has grown rapidly over the years.

In 1900 the Swiss drank half a gallon (2L) per person per year. This increased to 16 gallons (69L) in 1990 and climbed to 28 gallons (118L) in 2004.

There are about 50 brands of domestic Swiss Bottled Waters.
