SFPUC Unveils Hetch Hetchy Bottled Water
Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. visited the City Store today and plunked down a
buck and a quarter to purchase the first bottle of Hetch Hetchy Mountain
WaterTM a new local product being introduced by the San Francisco
Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). The water, which comes from the Hetch
Hetchy Reservoir high in the Sierra Nevada, claims its source from the Tuolumne
River, melted mountain snow and glacial streams.

“The sale of
Hetch Hetchy Mountain WaterTM a pilot program of the SFPUC,
provides a unique opportunity to promote San Francisco, as well as raise public
awareness of our precious water resource,” said Mayor Brown.
Hetch Hetchy Mountain WaterTM will be available
starting today, March 25th, at four city locations. The bottled water can be
purchased in half-liter bottles for $1.25 at the City Stores in San Francisco
City Hall, Pier 45, the Beach Chalet, as well as the SFPUC Customer Service
Bureau at 425 Mason Street. Revenue generated from sales will help maintain the
system that delivers water to San Francisco from the Sierra Nevada.
“This pilot program is a key opportunity for us to explore the potential of a
new and exciting business,“ remarked SFPUC President E. Dennis Normandy. “We
look forward to the possibility of making our bottled water available at other
locations.”
According to SFPUC General Manager Patricia E. Martel, 31,000 half-liter
bottles of Hetch Hetchy Mountain WaterTM is being test marketed under
the pilot program. “The water was bottled by the California Bottling Company in
Roseville, California, and the label was designed by SFPUC staff,” said Martel.
“Hetch Hetchy Mountain WaterTM is micron filtered and treated with
ozone prior to bottling to comply with state and federal bottled water
regulations. No additives or sodium are added to the bottled water.” |
