A prestigious line up of independent judges was together to deliver verdicts on the vast array of assembled products from diverse international markets. Leading PET tooling specialist R&D Tool and Engineering, which kindly sponsored the competition, is at the forefront of providing solutions for the manufacture of packaging and it proved invaluable for Engineering Sales and Marketing Manager Peter Lloyd to sit on the judging panel.

The judges also include: Heather Taylor from NSF; Iain Ferguson from Co-operative Retail; Miguel Fresquet from Rexam; Claire Nuttall from Dragon Brands; Lianne van den Berg--Weitzel from Claessens Product Consultants; Jon Cowan from CCL Decorative Sleeves; Fiona Mathews from Earth Champions Foundation; and Nayl D’Souza from bottledwaterworld magazine. Zenith International Publishing Managing Editor Bill Bruce chaired the judging panel and ensured full account was taken for each of the nominations.

The shortlist of finalists will be published in a special supplement for Issue 43 of bottledwaterworld magazine published at the end of August. However, the winners will not be revealed until the awards presentation in Mexico City on 13 September 2007. Visit www.zenithinternational.com/events

As usual, the awards span all areas of commercial creativity such as determining which packaging formats for water are the most attractive and effective as a frontline marketing tool. The categories this year also cover developments in functional and designer waters, with further awards for best label, best marketing campaign, best website and best children’s concept.

In 2007, the judges will place a special emphasis on environmentally friendly and ethical endeavours with an award presented to the best sustainability initiative. From lightweighting to energy efficiency and from recycling to eco-friendly projects, initiatives or products delivering significant environmental benefits will shine in the contest.

Matching Bottled Water With Food
The FineWaters Balance categorizes the "mouthfeel" of water based on the level of carbonization in five steps from Still to Effervescent, Light, Classic and Bold. This categorization is the basis of matching water with food in a fine dinig experience.
The Water Glass
When one orders water in a fine dining restaurant it becomes rapidly clear that water is, in most cases, an afterthought. We have been served water in all possible contraptions from heavy whiskey tumblers to long highball glasses and the dreaded lemonade glass. A wide variety of wine glasses are also often used as water glasses. This is not appropriate.
The Flavor of Bottled Water
When tasting water the most important factor in its overall integrated sensation we call flavor is the mouthfeel generated by the size, amount and distribution of the bubbles or the absence of it.
