Our first Bottledwaterworld Design Awards attracted 47 entries from
17 countries. The finalists and winners received their awards at the 8th
European Bottled Watercooler Association (EBWA) Convention and Trade Fair in the
Italian town of Ferrara at the beginning of March 2002.
There were five categories: Best Overall Concept, Best Bottle in PET, Best Bottle in Glass, Best Label, Best Bottle in Other Material and a new category introduced, bottledwaterworld Premier Award. Best Overall Concept: in third place, Perrier with its PET bottle, “for presenting a bubbly image for the on the go sector while retaining recognisable characteristics from the classic Perrier glass bottle”. In second place, Llanllyr Source, “appreciated by all who had seen it for its elegant appearance and pure organic form, realised in two exactly scaled sizes”. In first place was Ty Nant’s new PET bottle. “Conceptually unique in terms of production delivery and truest in form to the water concept. A unique design demonstrating advances in blow moulding techniques”.
bottledwaterworld Premier Award: The judging panel simultaneously agreed “Ty
Nant had literally broken the mould for bottle design in the past year” and
clearly deserved this special award “For its unique pioneering concept and
excellence in execution in PET”. Best Bottle in PET: Third place in the PET category was awarded to Vichy Célestins for “its clean ergonomic styling, reminiscent of the female figure”. Second place was awarded to Carlsberg Kildevaeld for “its unusual shape - a breakaway from traditional PET bottles with a strong, stable base”. The winner in the category was Spa Reine for “strong consistent branding throughout the range and distinctive embossing of its famous Pierrot clown motif”. Best Bottle in Glass: In third place was Vöslauer, for its “strong square shouldered design with unique wave sculptured detailing”. In second place was Wattwiller, appreciated “for its unusual elliptical profile and classic upmarket positioning”. The winner was Llanllyr Source for “its strong brand differentiation, pure line and deliberate use of glass with a recycled look”.
Best Label: In third place was the transparent labelling on its PET 1180 water and in second place was the labelling on its Llanllyr Source glass bottle, already the winner of the Best Bottle in Glass category and runner up in the Best Overall Concept category. The winner was Isbre, which had scored high marks in the Best Overall Concept category narrowly missing third place.
Best Bottle in Other Material: The award went to Nestlé’s Pure Life 19 litre polycarbonate bottle with the judges noting how well it reflected the brand’s identity from its small pack offerings.
