British Spa Towns and Mineral Water Spas

At its most narrow, the word "spa" simply signifies the place where a mineral spring rises. At its broadest, the word "spa" has come to encompass virtually any natural treatment, product or philosophy that relates to the well-being of the human body or mind. Whilst many of our traditional Spas are no longer used for bathing, the medical, cultural and architectural inheritance of Britain’s 18th century spa heyday remains. Each of the 12 Spa Heritage Towns continues to attract visitors from all over the world, drawn by beautiful buildings, parks, gardens, theatre, festivals, museums and the availability of a wide range of complementary therapies.
