"a wonderful and most excellent restorative against any lethargy of the body or weariness of the mind".
Strathpeffer Spa, situated in the Highlands of Scotland, invites you to visit the newly restored Spa Pump Room - an original Victorian Spa experience/exhibition you will really enjoy.
The Pump Room recreates the halcyon days of the Strathpeffer Spa to offer visitors a refreshing insight into an era when High Society flocked to this picturesque Highland village for "the season".
Here you will find a superb range of interpretative displays, including video and life-size models, which reveal the history behind the development of the Spa and how it rapidly became one of Europe's most popular health resorts between 1870 and 1939.
You can sample the famous curative waters and see how the wealthy patients of days gone by were also advised to try many different kinds of invigorating baths, including the infamous peat bath.
Strathpeffer Spa is a conservation village and the Pump Room is right in the heart, providing a striking portrait of Victoria society and its relationship with the Scottish highlands.
A delight to visit, it offers a healthy dose of Victorian heritage - a truly rejuvenating experience in itself - and reveals so much more than one might expect.
The Spa's Victorian gardens have also been restored to their former glory and provide a delightful retreat - so you can enjoy your recommended constitutional!
The Strathpeffer Pump Room is open from April - October.
