 Natural water is one of great gifts by mother nature of Kirishima area. One
of spring waters in Kirishima mountains which is also known as home of rich hot
springs. With 20 thousand tons of daily water flows, spring at Maruike is the
representative spring of the Kirishima springs.
Sheer volume of the water has
been used not just for drinking water-supply but also helped in local
irrigation. The water is filtrated with the soil of Kurinodake mountain (1202m)
before spouting our in Maruike spring. The spouted water is not itself suitable
for drinking directly but sterilised water is available for drink at drinking
spot nearby. "Maruike" literally means round pond, but the spring is actually
crescent shaped.
